Re: SEPTA might get multi-level railroad coaches

From the Philly.com article posted above: CRRC MA has contracts to build rail cars in Boston, Chicago, and Los Angeles, but its plant in Springfield, Mass., won’t be completed until October and it has yet to construct a single car. It scored “acceptable” on a technical rating, middling performance o...

Happened to catch something unusual yesterday around 1:30 PM: saw a few Silverliner V's being hauled northbound on the CSX freight line that runs between Cheltenham and Neshaminy Falls.

Wonder what was up with that...

In the continuing obliteration of this line, all of the remaining grade crossing protection (flashers, highway and pedestrian gates) has been removed from the Rhawn Street crossing within the last few weeks. Although long out of service, they were a nostalgic reminder of what once was. Yeah but the...

Railfan seats blocked off

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I finally rode some V's yesterday and was able to sit near the front of the train. I noticed that on both my trains (I rode from Fox Chase to Villanova) that the very front railfan seats were blocked off with yellow tape or a sort of yellow elastic band. ...

Meh, never bothered me when I rode. Ten extra seconds? Come on, who cares.

I am confused by the statement about "the restoration of electric service", please explain? It sounds misleading, as in the restoration of electric *train* service.

How far was the Cynwyd line double tracked?

I walked the Cynywyd Heritage Trail the other day and I was wondering whether the line used to be double-tracked beyond Cynwyd?

It looked as if there may have been enough room for double track but it looked like a tight fit.

Re: Newtown line leased to Montco for recreational trail

Note how the first question on the FAQ page for the Stop the Newtown Trail site is: "I am concerned about my property." I found this answer for one of the other questions to be particularly confusing: "Northampton has no place to park or any sidewalks, so the only way to get to the tr...

Sorry if this has been asked already, but is SEPTA planning on selling the number plates from the outsides of the scrapped cars? If so I would be interested...

3. Based on the info in another thread and on the Newtown Foundation site, most of the signals on this line were SA-1 searchlights. But I do know of at least one signal, the southbound home signal to Fox Chase, was a Reading-style tri-light type. Does anybody know in more detail what signals the Ne...

Re: Sound Silverliner II's (And Possibly III's) Used To Make

The sound I will miss is the whine/drone of the MA sets on the II/III's. In my youth, pre-commuter tunnel, that was the "sound of Suburban Station" to me. I think I know exactly what you mean and I loved that sound too. Even as an adult when I walked to the train station I would hear that...

Funny that the first time I ever saw these signs (without the R1 designation) was near the "planned" end of the usage of the color signs back in July 2010.

Speaking of signage, I fail to see the need for several "Ryers Station" signs along the platform. Same thing at Cheltenham... there are like 4-5 of them.

I do like the new Ryers station, although it seems like parking capacity has been somewhat diminished.

Neat, I'll have to look for that the next time I walk the trail.

The only abandoned station that comes to mind that probably wouldn't be bad is probably Shawmont. I stopped there this past summer on a walk along the Schuylkill River Trail. Nice shot for some pics. I didn't get hassled by anyone, I was also up close and personal with the old dilapidated station i...
