The track geometry between Waterville and Torrington is full of curves, many of them 4-5-6 degrees or more; there is even a 9-degree curve. Regardless of track condition (heavy rail, 100% new ties), there's still the matter of curves, which will slow the trip considerably. There are plenty of places...

I'll have you know that the E&P is the best dam railroad in New England! I took this New England boiled dinner of a railroad and made it profitable in less than a year!

The metal signs with raised lettering are cast iron, with gold leaf letters and edge trim on a black background. That's why they're so heavy!!

The 2 pm train makes a 20 minute stop at Fascia's in Waterville. That stop is at the southern end of the regular trip, at the Waterville run-around track. The Fascia's stop is in addition to the regular 1 hour-15 minute round trip out of Thomaston; the 2 pm trip therefore runs a little longer.

NYO&W caboose 8301, now privately-owned and in a back yard in Deep River, Conn. Middle car is a DL&W "Boonton" coach, not upgraded by DL&W with metal window sash and new smooth roof (like most of the surviving cars in service today), but has original wood window sash and standi...

The third-rail equipped car had a round roof, not the usual clerestory roof. The windows were the usual square-cornered sash, fixed in place as the car was air-conditioned. I think the car was number 98. The electric equipment was to provide power for lighting, heat and a/c. The "other" NY...

That's pretty much correct. This is an interesting source for tracing long-gone ROWs-- http://www.openrailwaymap.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Zoom in on the area(s) of interest and you can see individual buildings that are now in place on the Winsted route. I highly ...

The very nice, printed trip handout done by MBRRE covered the details such as the stub to Albert Bros being the remaining portion of the old Watertown Branch, etc. A few PA system glitches were corrected during the trip, sometimes those things happen. At one point, there was commercial (FM) radio in...

Th...
