Anybody know what kind of structure was at West End Hampton during the later years of the CNJ/early Conrail? A shed or trailer is my guess. Would love to see a picture of it if anybody has one. Same thing for Valley Station, which I believe was closed in the 1930s. Never have seen a picture of that ...

Yes, the bridge is still there and very visible right off Route 54 on the left hand side as you head west. The approaches are gone on both ends, but it is still very impressive.

CNJ Passenger Service Mauch Chunk - Tamaqua?

by frankgaron2 ¦  Mon Mar 13, 2023 2:09 pm ¦  Forum: Central Railroad Company of New Jersey ¦  Topic: CNJ Passenger Service Mauch Chunk - Tamaqua? ¦  Replies: 1 ¦  Views: 517

Did the CNJ actually run passenger service Mauch Chunk to Tamaqua via the L&NE Hauto Tunnel? That's what the attached 1899 (or so) Official Guide seems to show. Never knew about this - anybody have any intel?

Thanks,
Frank

Great post - this line has fascinated me as well. I need to get out to Haddock and walk around. There is still a lot to be seen in the area. One being the bridge piers for where the LV went over the Reading (or is it the other way around?).

Reading Ashland Upper Route

 by frankgaron2 ¦  Sun Mar 12, 2023 9:11 am ¦  Forum: Anthracite Railroads - CNJ, L&HR, LNE, LV and RDG ¦  Topic: Reading Ashland Upper Route ¦  Replies: 4 ¦  Views: 896

When was this line built/abandoned? What traffic would have used this instead of going through Gordon?

This line fascinates me - especially the bridge over the former LV Ashland Branch and the Mahanoy Creek just east of Ashland.

Thanks,
Frank

Has anybody ever followed/explored the PRR Shenandoah branch from Frackville to Shenandoah?

Just wondering what’s left to see outside of the one bridge abutment at the Reading’s Saint Clair yard and the freight house in Shenandoah?

Looking to finally cover the last bit of the CNJ that I haven't followed in detail this coming winter. Wondering if anybody else here has hiked or mountain biked Laurel Run to Ashley? Looks like it's pretty accessible except for just east of Interstate 81 in Georgetown? Is there a way around that? A...

Hi all: Have a question about a spur that would've run through what is now Newark airport. Please see the attached maps for the line in question. What I'm wondering is what was this line used for? There appears to be some sort of yard midway on the route. You can also see some sidings that ended jus...
