I was recently riding my bike on the ex-PRR out of Mayville, NY. Tough climb for me out of Mayville but it was easy going back down to Mayville. When I got home, I started reviewing the line all the way to Cory. It appears that there is a trail head there and I plan to try it out this summer. I may...

Can't say I know for certain, but I have to believe that operating a locomotive remotely using DPU controls for switching purposes would not be allowed. The main reason being DPUs typically are setup to maintain their current throttle settings in the event communications (COM) are lost. The last th...

Railroad operating departs (especially the class I's) will have published rules that govern train makeup, how much power can be online, how many operative dynamic brake axles can be cut in, position of mid and rear train helpers, etc. The rules can vary considerably depending on the railroad and th...

This is something we are going to have to live with as rail communications switch to digital. The interference is not a major problem for the railroads with base stations located every few miles along the ROW to avoid problems with distant signals and the dispatchers use tone-up so they don't have ...

Do you have a CTCSS programmed for the squelch? Make sure there is nothing in the CTCSS part of your programming, or if you don't try loosening the squelch up but this may allow more interference to break through too.

I was told some time ago that car storage fees were $10/day/car for the specific RR. Does this seem to be a norm all over?

I am saddened to see this. Art was a great contributor to our railroading history. He was a great friend on Facebook too that I wish that I could have met him, however I deactivated back in June and have been out of the loop there. Clear signals ahead my friend.

It's at the start of the Salamanca Branch, just clear of the switch of the wye at the corner of Morningside and Sullivan.

Bought a new scanner and it seems to only allow 3 digits past the decimal point. Rear end devices frequency is 4 digits to the right of the decimal(457.93750). Will this frequency work if im only allowed 3 digits on my scanner? Thank you Try to enter it as 457.937. Your scanner may take it that way...

Made my first visit to Ridgway a few days ago. What railroads operate the active rails? There are active rails on the east side of the Clarion River (which, since the sign at the depot says Pennsylvania RR, I assume it used to be the PRR, but who operates trains on the rails now? Same question for ...

I've been out of the BPRR loop for quite some time, but I thought the BPRR/AVR trade off was done at Evans City?

It has been a while since I have been up with ops on the BPRR. I can tell you that the line is removed between Mosgrove and Brookville. From Brookville to Falls Creek is primarily used to get equip. to/from Bville to the shop and for car storage on the sidings. The diamond at FC was removed years ag...

Haven't seen anything on OCS coming to the Open this week. Any reports? NS came in 2007, and I think KCS came a few years after.
