As built Amfleet and Horizon coaches had reversible seats but these are the OLD Cars. The new Airo fleet and others will have fixed seating - the NEW Cars. Seems like a majority of Amtrak passengers prefer facing in the direction of travel. Heaven forbid the OLD Cars would be preferable to the NEW C...

I worked part time as a construction flagger in Broad Brook when the sinkhole project was underway. Sadly the ended when the parallel pipeline was stabilized - there was stall around 10-15 feet of fill missing. More permits now have to be applied for before the project can resume from what I was tol...

I wonder how the Patriot Rail acquisition will affect the owners of the railroad equipment at various locations between Concord and Lincoln. The 5 RDCs that have been stored at Lincoln for a number of years will be departing for the Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum lines.

We were up there a few weeks ago. Couldn't get close to the B&A roundhouse at Northern Maine Jct - cable gates on the access road. The last I knew was that the turntable had been removed and the building - seemed to be in good shape - was being used for heavy equipment maintenance. Track leading...

Correct, Jeff, scrap merchants Albert Brothers is the only active customer on the remaining part of the Watertown Branch. I am going to guess that this trackage never was included in the Pan Am Southern and remained owned by the B&M.

The disposal of the former Pan Am wreck trains of both Waterville Maine and East Deerfield, MA has begun and it seems that most items will be preserved by a number of different heritage railroads and railroad museums. Speaking as a member of the Railroad Museum of New England board of trustees we ar...

A significant amount of construction and demolition debris is loaded in then shipped out of CT. Housatonic, Naugatuck- Pan Am Southern, Providence and Worcester, and Conn. Southern and I think New England Central are active carriers. Other significant freight includes limestone, aggregates, lumber, ...

Any other info available?

Correct - 2201 is a parts source and has supplied its older sister 2203 with a radiator section and a number of other items and 2203 is again listed as in service. Engine block not repairable per the mechanical department.

Fairly sure the Waterbury Republican printing plant closed several years ago. The final cars I observed were a couple of BAR box cars, sitting in the lower yard near the former freight house where the newspaper leased some space. Around that time I was told that the costs of shipping the newsprint w...
