Re: Historical Discussion

I have... questions: ... 2. If the airport line stations and bridge over I95 were done when the airport was redone in the 70's, why did it take so long for the line to go into service? ... 2. An editorial at that time blamed engineers and lawyers without proper supervision. I missed this one until ...

Re: Amtrak Diner and Food Service Discussion

Why not Cooks and Waiters, and maybe a Steward to be in charge of the crew?
But first, the law requiring food & beverage self-sufficiency must be changed; the accountants can parse the costs to everyone's confusion.

I have 2 questions: 1. How come the connection between the NEC and the RDG main just RR south of the Norristown junction was never electrified and used? ... 2. Re: Keating, Pa.

The connection at Keating for the NYC to go north on the PRR was an essential part of the Penn Central merger and dates to that event. As to Williamsport, at least in 1967, the Buffalo Day Express headed around the connection at Linden to Newberry tower where it wyed and backed the last mile or so i...

Re: Would this ticketing be a problem?

I wish this all-reserved folly on regular Northeast Corridor trains would just go away.
It's such a waste of everybody's time for the sake of squeezing the last dime out of last-minute travellers.

Re: "Lost" stations on R3 West Trenton?

I think a reopened Roelofs (with parking) would do great business, especially in the glaring geographical absence of the Newtown branch or any stations between Levittown and Trenton. It would be great but making it handicapped accessible would be quite a challenge with the present track configurati...

Re: A line that never was...

Noticing a dotted line on a map, I thought it would be worth resurrecting this old topic. G. Wm. Baist's Map Showing the Development of the City and Suburbs of Philadelphia, 1897 can be viewed on http://www.philageohistory.org It shows that the Philadelphia & Reading still owned much of the property...

Been on both sides of that table; sometimes as the loner and sometimes in a pair or a group of three. If you're too uncomfortable with a wholly unpredictable dining experience, take your meal in your room. My experiences range from the guy who clued me in to miles-swapping with Guest Rewards (a thin...

Re: Bellingham, WA

The deal was 20-some years ago when the port authority built an intermodal transportation center in the Fairhaven part of town; buses and trains with ferries across the street. The GN station is recognized on the National Register of Historic Places and the BNSF uses it as a yard office.

Re: BURGETTSTOWN, PA STATIONS

The commuter trains went to Center Avenue station, down a branch, while the main line station, according to an Official Guide, was 700 feet away. Below is a scan from the PRR CT-1000 of 1945. Here's a link to a track chart of the Burgetts Branch . And another link with location coordinates and a mod...
