Spent 10 years there. You will probably get furloughed. There's so much seniority there and little chance to move up as engineer. If I had stayed there, I would prob be in the top 33%, and thats taking into consideration I made engineer there back in '98. Too many young folks so if you get on, be pr...

No offense, but you have to be an idiot to not pass the Hogan test. The Hogan test has nothing to do with personality. Its tests for consistency in your answers by asking the same question over and over again. Basically, it determines your ability to tell the truth consistently. You fail it, its bec...

Congrats on your new career move! Just remember to go in with an open mind and a willingness to learn, keep your wit about you and you'll do just fine.

Ya I have never heard of it as a requirement. I need to go get tested. Keep in mind too.....it can be fatal. A good CSX friend of mine was such a case a couple years ago. And he was only about 39 I think....and pretty good health.

Ok guys, we all know Mr. Norman's repeated "Amtrak triumph in ending service for the SL". Quite frankly....it was the best move possible. Next, there is a new "Am-mang" in place, and it welcomes the idea of bringing a STATE sponsored daily service train back into service at some ...

First off, the bulk of all the Viewliner II cars should be in our hands by this time next year. I work in JAX crew base. As soon as enough cars become available, look for the Palmetto to be "equipped" and returned to FL....which it will keep its current schedule and run thru FL (via A-line...

There's a few Amtrak engineers I know here in the NW qualified to operate both UP and BNSF engines; when I took my usual trip every summer on the Cascades to Vancouver, BC, we had a UP engine take us all the way into Pacific Central Station. The engineer's comment was that it was smoother ride than...

Ok let me make some quick corrections here: To Mr. Norman's comments, "They must be properly qualified on the host road's signals and Operating Rules as well as on Amtrak's own lines (principally Boston-Wash)." That is not so. We do not have to be qual'd on segments we dont run on....like ...

Betcha Kato will screw it up and just mount it to the current drive of the P40/42....which is the way they have it shown in the picture.

They don't wear the suit like the Conductors but they have their own attire. Their outerwear must be Amtrak. I have no idea where you work/Zone, but I don't have any "outerwear", nor do the Zones where I have worked require me to wear anything "uniform" related. Don't ya love it...

Ken is correct. They are brake indicator lights. An amber light allows the crew to determine that the air brakes have been applied and a green light means the air brakes have been released. However, this is not always the case, due to the age of the eqpt. and the level of maintenance received (not ...
