Re: Official "Maple Leaf" Thread

Can someone tell me when service to and from Toronto resumed? I never saw any announcements of when. It was somewhere around the end of June. Amtrak now has to be sure to add specially equipped single modes (P42s) to AMT63 in ALB to go into Canada. I do not know the numbers I just know the new came...

I find it amusing that this is being billed as benefiting Metra. The Rockwell Line doesn't carry any Metra traffic (nor will it) and hasn't seen passenger traffic since 1971 if even before that. The PRR came up parallel to the Rockwell from Ogden Junction before turning east to parallel the Milwauk...

But it’s only the bottom heads that are turned away. If the entire signal wasn’t in service, I’d expect both heads to be turned away.

I'm currently in Reno. In the UP trench through downtown Reno, there are westbound signals on both tracks just west of West St. These are two head signals with the bottom heads turned to the side. But the top heads are dark at all times, even with a train straddling the signals (seen them numerous t...

What's your point? The OP says he used a 2018 timetable to come up with his list of unused train numbers. I was explaining why in the Summer of 2018, 48/49 were not being used.

Sounds like I better share the spreadsheet. Here's the 2018 schedule number comparison . Some openings in the under-100's to shake some memories: 9/10, 12/13, 15-18, 23-26, 31-40, 44-49, 60/61, 70, 72, 81. 48-49 are not open (Lake Shore Limited). There was no 48/49 in the summer of 2018 due to NY P...

The cleaning of the trains is one thing but another reason is that started on July 31st that O'Hare and Midway "is now" closed to the general public between 10pm and 4am unless your an badged employee or passenger ... Or a passenger as said. And while there probably will not be departing ...

First, #1105(24) passes 75ML (why 1105 instead of 5 not sure; guessing its annulled short of EMY account forest fires), and followed right on its markers by #3 about 15ML. Just as soon as it passes. #4(22) passes some 90ML. Assuming it's for the same reason, the 1105 is because the train is on a la...

Saw that a couple weeks ago (For some strange reasons, I like to look up train station on Goole Maps, wether or not they are Via Rail) Given that it's a 2-3 times/Week train (on each directions), passing through such a beauty is an increadibly nice coincidence. Also, juding by the photos... I guess...

There is a long standing myth or rumor that 76 Street, a partly complete station shell may exist. The original plan was for the IND to continue east to Ozone Park/Aqueduct, but the plans were halted by the war in 1942. The tunnel cut and station shells up to Euclid were partly complete by '42. When...

Faster via the KBS? I don't think so. Even without considering the reverse moves due to current station locations. By saying "reverse moves", you're assuming both Lafayette and Kankakee. While I'd say that a stop in Lafayette is needed, I'd say less so for Kankakee. Should such a route be...

There’s also no backing moves needed on the current route, whereas the other route requires passengers to ride backwards between Lafayette and Kankakee! What am I missing? I'm looking at what I thought was the route through Kankakee and I'm not seeing a need to go backwards between Lafayette and Ka...

I think the 9 passenger trains are timetabled. There are countless switch and turn moves shoved through here. Also a few freights. Lumber could be shut down if public traffic were allowed to use that ramp off Roosevelt. Far more than 9 scheduled. As near as I can figure: 2 Lake Shore Limited 2 Capi...

BTW: Amtrak owns a total of two public crossings in the entire state of Illinois. The other crossing is Lumber St (MP 521.2). JL: MP 521.2 is from Buffalo,NY as measured by Penn Central and Conrail. For another example Pittsburgh-Chicago Union Station via Fort Wayne,IN (PRR/PC) (the former Broadway...
