Re: Woodland Pulp LLC/St Croix Tissue

That is a major increase in rail car volume for that mill. If the destination is Macon, GA, Pan Am is almost certainly one of the carriers ... If so that also implies significant new volume for MAWA/WAMA or whatever the Mattawamkeag job is these days. If Macon, GA is indeed the destination, I would...

Re: Nashville & Eastern bought by RJ Corman

So far, I have heard the two people in charge of making the transition for the two companies are both very senior, and wish to retire within about a year. Once the "marriage" is complete with these two folks, you may see some changes start taking place. There is a desire to grow business on the Nash...

Re: W&LE Trackage Rights to Hagerstown

The trackage rights were used for grain trains bound for Shenandoah, VA on the NS. The train symbol was Z416 on CSX. Loads were taken to Shenandoah, spotted, and the WLE power returned light to Connellsville. The trackage rights are still in existence, but not used. The ore trains which ran to Sparr...

Re: CMQ for sale?

If the railroad is indeed for sale, I would look for one of the second-tier holding companies to make a move on it. I don't see the line turning the kind of big numbers G&W or Watco need to pump up their portfolios to continue to fund additional acquisitions. International Rail Partners (the latest ...

Re: EDAY/AYED

Just to ask, I feel like I've missed something-- is this ED8 an ED-Ayer turn? Is this essentially the train formerly known as ED-495? I watch the railroad from afar, and anything that uses non-NS power is of interest to me. I appreciate any responses, as well as you guys posting this stuff.

Re: Delaware Coast Line Railway

And you can forget that. Checked with a solid source, and Trains has it wrong. Still winding down operations on 12/31/18. My apologies if that is what the article already says, but if it does, that's some "old" news they are just getting wind of...

Re: Delaware Coast Line Railway

Trains Newswire is reporting that the DCLR is quitting business. I'm not a subscriber, but by the way the headline sounds, the company has elected to cease operations ahead of the end of contract, which ran through the end of this year. If so, this would likely see the Delmarva Central Railroad ask...

Re: Has IP gone "Belly up"?

No question that IP has taken some torpedoes with some of it's endeavors. But, they can't be accused of not trying. Agreed, but I think a better sense of knowing "when to say when" may have helped. It would certainly be nice if we were saying "Ed gave it his best" without the long line of unpaid cr...

Re: Has IP gone "Belly up"?

IP also owns a huge fleet of non-operating E units. Supposedly the largest fleet in the country. This recent STB recordation documents a refinancing of 85 pieces of Iowa Pacific passenger equipment, and gives a good look at what is on hand: https://www.stb.gov/recordations.nsf/ecdb3768a2c20efe85257...

Yes, but there have been several reports Iowa Pacific is shopping for a buyer for the operation. I thought I put that in, but excluded it upon review, so thank you for bringing that up.

Re: Has IP gone "Belly up"?

SNC 8524 was sold to Motive Power Resources (MVPX) who in turn sold it to the Huntsville & Madison County (HMCR). IPH is about as close to belly up as they have been, but Ed Ellis seems to have more lives than the average cat. Many expected the company to be gone a few years ago, but they still stru...
