Re: Amtrak NEC Inland, Springfield Shuttle/Regional/Greenfield Route

Interns are supposed to be supervised. No excuse for what is appearing in the timetable. I sent them an email thru their webpage.

Re: Last Station Built New Before Amtrak?

I believe I remember watching a GTW passenger train in South Bend right up to the end. I got a degree at Notre Dame during the summers of 69-73 and they certainly were running within that time frame.

Re: Haverhill Line Upgrade Discussion (Western Route)

I can assure you Lawrence was a lot busier than it is now, but I presume you know that. Some passenger trains even originated and terminated there, in addition to the gas turbine car that ran the M&L up to Manchester. The B&M ran more freights, and you had camp trains, ski trains, and the Rockingham...

Re: Amtrak Diner and Food Service Discussion

The Panorama cars used on the Canadian and Skeena would work, with some modifications, especially stronger A/C.
This, assuming there's money to acquire them, of course. And then there's this problem: the scenery pretty much stinks east of the Rockies! :-)

Re: Amtrak Branding NEC: Acela, Metroliner, Regional

It was called [The New England States/i]. No "Express" or "Limited" even though it was one of the best trains the New York Central ran in its heyday.

Re: Amtrak Downeaster Discussion Thread

This is a separate project from the Downeaster. It should probably have its own thread, I would think. I also think the project is more suited as a light rail project. If it goes to Gorham, that might be another story.

How are you ever going to connect Havre, going south through Wyoming, and on down to Denver?
I was assuming Havre. You could do it going south from Shelby, using the BNSF Great Falls Sub, then south from Great Falls to Denver.

Re: Viewliner II Delivery/Production

If the short trains are having trouble tripping he sensors, it seems like the railroad needs PTC interlocked crossing gates, and the passenger train needs an electromagnetic shunt between the rails to make sure any crossings will activate properly. Can’t be worth wasting the fuel and wearing out yo...

Re: Amtrak Expansion Plan

I think it's a foregone conclusion that Amtrak will add service, corridors--call them what you will--only when states put up the money for them. Texas? Forget about it.
