The concrete platform at Seaford was in bad shape for a while. So a few months ago, a short section of platform was demolished and replaced with wood !

Is this a tempoary fix if down the road the entire platform were to be replaced ?

It will be replaced with concrete, but with the present state of the Capital budget, you guess is as good as mine as to when this will actually happen.

The wood is frowned upon as third rail arcing can set fire to it. In the old days of the first wood high level platforms built for the M-1's in '68, the undersides of the platforms were lined with Transite, which was asbestos. Since that's an evil material now, wood platforms are frowned upon.

It maybe TREX decking, this was used to raise up Hollis station after the concrete tie job. Long Beach station had a temporary section until an overpass was built later.

The far west end of the westbound plat at Mineola is wood.

The west end of Mineola platform isn't wooden any more. There was only a wooden extension when there was construction on the Franklin Ave. bridge so that the trains could pull up a few extra feet and let the doors clear onto the platform. If you look now you can see it's gone.
