The 2nd xing in Nesquehoning PA has no crossing lights or gates. I can't figure this out. The R&N has had a few near misses here. It's one of the busier xings on their line but no protection. They have brand new large LED flashers on lines that never see trains such as Delano and New Phili. But on the line thru Nesqy that gets used quite often they have nothing. I don't get it.

Why would you have large LED flashers in New Phili on a dead end stub track that sees a turn of the wheel once every few years but in Nesq have nothing on a busy road with limited visibility.

The level of grade-crossing protection at grade-crossings in Pennsylvania is determined by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, and the railroads only install what the PUC tells them to.

They don't own that piece of railroad, the Carbon County Rail Commission does. They aren't going to spend money on what they don't own without a contribution from the county, state, and federal government. Would you?
