I am wondering where the switches are on the L train tracks in Manhattan? Obviously between 8th and 6th avenue, but where else? Also, how much does a switch typically cost to install and maintain?
Maybe more switches between stations could have avoided what happened today, when there was a fatality on the track and all L train service stopped. With more two way switches it may have been possible to go around the train involved in the situation and those trains could even skip the union square stop, but at least the whole line in manhattan wouldn't be shut down.
Just curious. Thanks, F
