Rail service to Calverton?

Any new photos or information?

I have some from last weekend. I'm just being lazy. Anyone have a better way to upload pictures instead of attaching them?

I heard some chatter about NYA basing one of the SW-1001's out at Calverton when the project is completed. What is planned that, if this chatter is true, would warrant an on-site locomotive, rather than the power of the road freights servicing the Main Line? Will there be a yard, or just a lot of busy spurs? Thanks.

One alternative would be uploading batches of photos to Flickr (free) using their Uploadr program. Then you can link to them.

Is there, or will there be, a siding with the spur branching off of that, like at Pine-Aire, or will it be directly off the Main Line?

Directly off the main unless another 2 switches are brought in.

Was out there with another a few weeks back...generally the same stuff as the previous shots posted but here's a few new ones..
The switch itself...as said before this is to be the one that joins the spur with the mainline trackage.

They were laying track today when I drove by looks like they got the lead to the switch in place. I know the switch may be put in on Sat.

The Main Track switch has been Installed but not able to be used at this time.
This is the longest stretch of abandoned train track on Long Island to be restored for the movement of trains.

The track switch from the Greenport line to the spur looks to be fully installed but is currently locked into position with a yellow device on the track and a wooden block. The entire turn to bring the spur parallel to Connecticut Ave. is complete with ties and track. The gravel goes part way around the curve. The grading work along Connecticut Ave. and into the old Grumman property looks to be complete. No sign of a crossing at River Rd. yet, but piles of ties stacked nearby. The work is being done by Railroad Construction Co., Inc. of Patterson, NJ.
