The guy with the neon saftey vest is actually a volunteer on the Maine Eastern passenger trains, but he always wears the vest while railfanning. The photo was taken at Stanwood Street, looking right down the interchange siding towards Freeport. My friend actually took that photo, but I was there when he did and I have taken many photos there before.

Times Record article about all of this: http://www.timesrecord.com/articles/201 ... 447183.txt
After an absence of more than two decades, freight trains have returned to state-owned railroad tracks that stretch from Brunswick to Topsham.

In late November 2009, trains carrying scrap metal from Grimmel’s Industries in the Pejepscot section of Topsham again began rattling along the rail line that links Brunswick to Topsham and Lisbon.

Too bad the folks at Grimmel's weren't able to comment, as it is always interesting to get the businesses' side of things.

There was one car, #6800 seen by my friend at Rigby yesterday. They must be planning another run sometime soon, but I'm not sure when. It's been pretty quiet in Brunswick the last three weeks.

Heads up Brunswick! It's 1:45pm and 512 with 27 cars just passed by my house (Freeport) heading your way. There is 9 new DPCX cement hoppers for Thomaston and 11 M/T hoppers for Grimmell's along with several grain cars. Look's like business is picking up.

Who receives the grain cars?

If they are BN or BNSF cars, the're probably perlite cars for Thomaston. Thanks for the update DoubleStack! About time a train comes to Brunswick again! :-)

Those Maroon Cars... that would make more sense. Do they make drywall with Perlite?

Thanks, drcrf93. I should have said covered hoppers instead of grain cars. I see several of these ACF and PS type cars when they come through, mostly SF and BNSF in maroon colors with a occasional CN cylinder style.

I'm not exactly sure what they use perlite for, but it is a very importland customer for Maine Eastern as well as the cement in Rockland.

They arrived in Brunswick a little after 2:00 PM and set the cars out for Maine Eastern under Spring Street the bridge, then headed up the Lewiston Lower with the 11 M/T's. Here are some pictures, sorry I missed the engine.

Thanks to DoubleStack's heads-up I rushed out to catch MEC 512 on the way to Grimmel's. Wouldn't you know I just missed it as it crossed River Road in Topsham with it's load of hoppers. But I waited at the River Road crossing for about a half hour and caught it on the return trip. Here are the photos. I do have a short video of it crossing River Road which I'll upload and post a link to later this evening. Enjoy!

Great pictures/videos pinwizard1971. Good to hear the horn at that crossing, I didn't think they usually blew it on that line.
