Does NS operate anywhere around Fayetteville, NC, If so what is their Subdivisions, or lines?

There is a branch that comes down from the north from Fuquay-Varina NC and was part of the original Norfolk Southern. Don't know anything about that actual operations at this time.

A local goes on duty 0800 M-F at Varina and travels as far south as need be, and comes back up the same day. Correct me if i'm wrong

That is correct... the local serves some cement plants, Goodyear Tire in Fayetteville, and often brings soybeans down to Fayetteville to interchange to CSX for Cargill in Fayetteville...their biggest customer on this line is Goodyear, and it generates much of their car traffic. They are supposed to begin bringing grain to interchange to Aberdeen and Rockfish for an ethanol plant in Raeford, NC.

the kelly-springfield tire plant was definitely the biggest customer for them when i lived in fayetteville, nc. that would be interesting to see some ethanol traffic on that line, a line that sees only 1 local per day.
