I know a very good hot spot. On Indiana 17 in a little town called Burr Oak, 2 miles North of Culver, Indiana. The tracks see 20-25 trains a day. If you go to 15 B Road, you can follow the tracks to a tiny town called Hibbard. This is also a good place to watch trains. You can also see switching over to the siding at least 5 times a day. Note, you can see the old Penn Central Line.
