About five years ago GE bought the "Jenbacher Werke" in Tirol, western Austria.

Aquiring this producer GE got a lot of diesel engine know how too. In the early years Jenbacher had built the most switching and road diesel engines up to 1500 hp with hydraulic transmission for the austrian state railways (OEBB) and some export locos and trains too. Later the locomotive market had been left and Jenbacher specializes in big diesel and gas engined power plants. The Jenbacher engines were known as rugged and very high efficient and maybe in the future we will see Jenbacher know how in a GE - loco too....
