As this post is being written, a feature on maglevs as the "solution"to many of our current transportation/mobility/infrastructural problems is being touted on Yahoo's home page. Unfortunately, as with the Parade article last month, it references a publication not used to dealing with either "hard science" or economic limitations.

If there's a silver lining to this issue, it is that Mr. Joe Six-Pack is finally awakening to how much will have to be accomplished, albeit at a more down-to-earth level, to address this problem. That's where relatively new avenues such as this Forum have a chance to put some positive spin on what is likely to grow into the proverbial 800-pound gorilla.

I think we should let the Chinese do the testing of MagLev. The capital costs are huge and the benefits dubious.

Developing HS technology belongs in the HSR forum. Soo, off this goes, faster than a mag-lev at speed.
