Theres a new camera device on top of 261... I believe it's the first engine to be equipped with it. Supposed to aid in ROW accidents.

There's a piece in a recent issue of Trains about the Arkansas & Missouri equipping it's vintage Alco fleet with video. Every company should do this, to prove to juries that the motorist and not the train and it's crew were at fault in grade crossing accidents.

ah, very cool. Are they going to continue putting cameras on the rest of the NY&R road fleet?

It's a struggle to get oil in the engines, much less cameras. I wonder how much the cameras can actually see anyway with all the oil on the lenses. :-D

Maybe they'll do it like the race cars, and have the screen that rotates when enough crap spatters on it. lol

Just a thought from an outsiders perspective... wouldn't you put cameras first on the engines that tangle with the most dangerous unmarked crossongs... the ones that run to Bushwick?

Here's a photo of the camera on the long hood of 155:

Is that camera for the crew or is it a webcam for railfans?

A webcam.........Now that is funny!!

That camera on the loco would be like rail-p.o.r.n. for the true foamer... you know there is a business opportunity in the webcam-on-a-train.
