It was reported in the July issue of Railpace that the Morristown & Erie has purchased ex. Erie Mining RS11's 7205 and 7210 from a grain elevator in Indianna. Can anyone confirm this? Also, are these to be placed in service or parted out? To my knowladge one of the units was in service at the elevator and the other was stored.

Consider the source.

The people out at Watseka called me about six weeks ago, looking for some Alco parts. An additional part of the conversation led to them expressing an interest in perhaps leasing or purchasing additional units. I don't think things have changed in that short amount of time.

Don't believe everything you read.

Maybe they could have bought parts off the 5 Alco RS-11's that were cut up.

Railpace happens to be correct on this one.

Sandy, last I heard these two ex Erie Mining engines were still running. Did the M&E buy them for service or for future scrapping?

I saw one of these units at the grain elevator in Watseka, Illinois back in June 2003.

Isn't this the same publication that reported the sale of former Erie Mining C-420 7221 to the M&E several years ago? The owner of the locomotive was quite surprised when he read that-

I don't know why they bought them. All I know is that sources at the M&E confirmed to me that they had been purchased.

I've got a report yesterday from a CSX engineer. He says there are 2 Erie Mining Alco's in Barr Yard (Chicago) Waybilled from Watseka, IL to the Morristown and Erie.

Thanks, PRRguy!

Got another update from the Csx engineer, he says they've been moved to the east end of the yard near the locomotive servicing area. I believe this area may be photographable.

Didn't they just finish scrapping these, two months ago?

Is there other ex-Erie Mining stuff, ALCOs included, left to purchase? I thought that it was all disposed of by this point.
