City Steel in Claymont DE, has two S type (S-1,2?) switchers
stored on the old #5 track on the north end of the property. I remember
seeing one of them in service several years ago. Does anybody know
the units heritage? Disposition?

Yes, I know the units very well. I was working at CitiSteel as the mechanic on them. They are as follows:

1067 Alco S2 purchased from Relco ex N,C and St. Louis???

102 Alco S2 South Buffalo, D&H 3009

104 Alco S2 South Buffalo, LV 164

9392 Alco S1 PC9392, NYC852 or 853 I fogot!

9085 Alco S4 B&O 9085, Solvay 2B

They were great units. I have many fond memories about those locomotives!

Is the blue & green #89 still there too? It and the 1067 worked at A.E. Staley in Morrisville, PA for a few years. Here's the 1067:

The Blue/Green S-2 # 89 was scrapped years ago.

if 1067 has a vertical sealed-beam headlight then it's pretty likely to be from NC&StL

The #89 was stored at Staley for many years before being sold to Tube City. I photographed it at Staley and again at Tube City. I was told that wound up at City Steel. I was surprised to hear this, assuming it was scrapped at Tube City.
The Relco 1067 wound up there as well. Is the 1067 still there on lease?

The 89 was not at CitiSteel.

Wait..is that PC alco still there? If so it needs to be added to the list!

PC 9392 was the first to go. I got called in late one night account of noise coming from the air compressor. No, it was a broken crankshaft. Yes, it still ran. And yes, that was the end of her. I think it was the winter of 1993 if my memory is correct. I loved that little S1!

What, then, became of the 104? Any final disposition about her?

I am not sure that the Alcos are in service there anymore.
