An idea would be to have hourly trains from 8:00am til noon going down and hourly from 4:00pm til 9:00pm coming back. They could leave NYP at 8 past the hour and run express from Newark to Long Branch
How would they get around the locals once south of Union Interlocking, then...? Apart from a few brief three-track segments, it's two tracks the whole way down.

And what slots are available at NYP and on the high line, even on the weekends, for additional express trains that end their journey at Long Branch?

People will have to change trains no matter what.

what NJT needs to do, is run South Amboy locals on the weekends. These would allow the overcrowded NEC trains to express from Rahway, while Coast Line trains could express from South Amboy. The S.A locals (would operate in both directions, dependingon the time of day) and allow some kind of decent express servcie on the Coast Line, all times of year, not just in the summer, while also relieving the EXTREME overcrowding on NEC weekend trains east of Rahway. Going east, Coast Line trains originating in LB would arrive in South Amboy, discharge their passengers making local stops, and then run express to Newark. As soon as that train leaves, the local would pull into the station and load up.

All the while, the NEC trains could unload in Rahway so the S.A local could pick up their local passengers, then run express to Newark Penn. Or, the trian coming up from trenton wouldn't have to express, and instead of unloading their local passengers, they would just follow the local coming up from S. A. whihc picked up all the passengers at Rahway, Linden, Eliz, and EWR. The Coast Line express would pick up the passengers at Newark Penn, SEC and then head into NYP, the S. Amoby Local, then the NEC eastbound.

Going west, the S. A. train would leave NYP first, and drop off all the local passengers to S. amboy, then the Coast Line trian would leave NYP, follow the S. Amboy local to Newark Penn, then pass the local either around the airport or just past Elizbeth and Elmora interlocking. Then the NEC local would leave NYP, with most passengers for west of Metropark. Keep in mind, that the NEC express would probably have already left before the S. Amboy local (they usually leave NYP between 10 and 15 minutes before the NEC local.

The weekends are not like they used to be where the ridership wasn't there......the ridership is there now, and often times, these trians are more crazy than weekday rush hour trains. And I think the S. Amboy local trains would improve service on not only the Coast Line, but also the NEC as well and releive the extreme overcrowding sometimes existing

There's only one problen Jt- your idea makes sense! NJT will never buy it! Having express service and a S. Amboy Local on weekends would make me very happy though.

No one also seems to have mentioned that now, instead of being one train on Sat and one on Sunday, there are now 2 Saturday morning and one at night and one Sunday morning and 2 at night. It was really irritating to only have an express in one direction!
