Are those SD45s that C&NW bought from Conrail? I'd forgotten they bought up a number of used SD45s when they were cheap in the 1980s.

According to some news I've heard..the MRl is receiving new power so we'll see how many of these SD45's make it the next couple years..

Also, I believe MRL may have the First loco delivered in PC paint or the Last PRR painted loco.

Looks like this list is going to hit 1000 units soon..

I asked around at a couple different forums and the common answer is:

SD40 6072 was repainted PC for ceremonies and publicity on that day.
(Penn Central Power by R. J. Yanosey, pages 12 & 142)

U33C's 6540-6559 ordered by PRR were the first new units delivered painted for PC, starting in Feb. 1968. (photo of PC 6540 on 2-17-68 in Penn Central Power, page 163)

PRR SD45's 6200-6234 were new in January 1968. According to the book Penn Central System Bi-Annual by Robert H. Reid, the 6207 was the last new unit painted PRR.

The last new NYC units were the C430's in December 1967.

Eastern Idaho has SD45s:

PRR-PC-CR 6186 -> CNW - NRE - EIRR 6513
PRR-PC-CR 6200 -> CNW - NRE - EIRR 6525

Only one of these is on the page linked above. I am having trouble finding a list of which CR units went to the CNW, though.

Does that mean 6200 - 6207 were painted for PRR,
but 6208 - 6234 were painted for PC?

or.

were the whole series 6200 - 6234 painted PRR, but 6207 happened to be the last of that series actually painted? (they were not painted in numerical order..which probably happens all the time.)

thanks,
Scot

I'm thinking that 6207 arrived later then most of the other units. I asked this question at trainorders.com and found this: "Paul Carleton's "A Pennsy Diesel Power Review" contains photos of #6106, 6114, 6127, 6162, 6175, 6212, 6225 in PRR paint."

Also, a check of the order numbers of the SD-45 order reveals that they were not delivered in number order. 6207 was one of the last 6 units delivered.

PRR 6062- EMDX 2818 (SD-40-2)

(Iowa Chicago & Eastern)
ICE 201- PRR 6050
ICE 203- PRR 6069
ICE 205- PRR 6095
ICE 217- PRR 6081

PRR/PC units 6200,02,04,06,08 were wired as midtrain masters and units 6201,03,05,07,09 as midtrain slaves.
this probably explains the late deliveries.

ok, we have PRR and NYC's last new locmotives documented.
and PC's first locos documented.

but what about PC's last locomotives?

the data I could find says PC GP38-2 8040-8162 were the last locos for PC...but they were built in 1973.

were there no new PC locos delivered in 1974 - early 1976?
or were the 1973 GP38-2's really the last?

thanks,
Scot

BNSF 2155-2189 are ex-PC 7825-7867. GP38's I guess. :-D Did PC have any SD-9's?
