On monday i had reason to be in NYP around 5:30 on my way to GCT and i see that there is little subway service at that time(1\2 and 7 i looked at). Why don't the rush hour trains start earlier? Does anyone else feel it should?

I'm not sure I understand. You think rush hour service should start well before rush hour? While there may have been several people waiting, it was by no means rush hour at that time you had this one-time trip.

I know many people that worked odd hours. The trains run on a schedule that early (or late for the party folk). You make the scheduled train like you would a LIRR or NJT train.

Traditionally the main workday is 9 AM to 5 PM (or 8 AM to 5 PM if you are on a 40 hour week not counting lunch). The Rush hour is still geared to that with the rush hour trains starting around 6 AM for the AM rush and 4:30 PM for the evening rush.
