No, plans are to build either a shallow cut-and-cover tunnel concurrent with the tunnel already under Chrystie Street, or (and much more likely) a deeper tunnel under Forsyth Street. Either one would connect to the tunnel segment already constructed that underpins both the QN and BD tunnels in the vicinity of the Manhattan bridge.

I was going to provide a link to a PDF showing specific construction plans, but the entire SAS page on MTA's site has been updated. Enjoy! (Oh, looks like they're going with the Deep Forsyth option..)

Getting back to the original subject:

Another thing that could be done would be to perhaps have the "M" train become a full-time train to Manhattan and either the "J" or "M" use the Chrystie Street connection to go via the 6th avenue line to West 4th and then either up 6th avenue to 50th, then with the "D" to 7th avenue and 53rd before heading to the 8th avenue line or straight up 8th avenue as in either case an additional uptown local (with whichever line that goes to downtown Manhattan continuing to Brooklyn as it would now). That to me could also do the trick.

The 8th Avenue already has 2 local services - C & E south of 59th, C & B north of 59th. The 6th Ave already has 4 routes - B, D, F & V. What does make sense, however, is to replace the V with an extended M, using the unused Chrystie Street connection and running it to Forest Hills. The V is universally hated anyway (but there must be a 6th Ave via 53rd service to Queens). Only 2nd Avenue would lose multiple route service - and who would really care about that?

(Ah, but those center tracks at 2nd Avenue .... IND Second System .... there is that vast cavern in Williamsburg ....)

That does make sense:

An extended "M" could become a full-time train and replace the "V" on weekdays going to Forest Hills (also perhaps doing so on weekends or on weekends terminating at Broadway-Lafayette Street), with the "J"/"Z" replacing the "M" going through the tunnel into Brooklyn in the rush hours (and perhaps the rush hour "R" that goes via Nassau Street starting at Essex Street instead of Chambers if it's still in use).
