From Railpace.com:

SHUTDOWN OF THE STEWARTSTOWN RAILROAD: The Stewartstown Railroad has issued a letter stating that the railroad has closed "for an indefinite amount of time" and will not reopen for Easter. The SRR has been operating as the same company almost continuously since 1885. " This might spell the end of the line for this venerable shortline, located in Stewartstown, Pa. (Alexander D. It was said on the Reading & Northern forum , that George Hart owns the SRR as well as the RTI in Jim Thorpe,Pa. and that he is in poor heath .

Sorry to hear that both Mr. Hart and the railroad aren't doing well. I remember a "Model Railroader" article in the late 1960's about converting an AHM Plymouth HOn2 1/2 switcher to HO gauge ala the Stewartstown. Also, one of the two Coudersport & Port Allegheny 44 tonners is on the railroad.

35 tonner #9 and the former C&PA 44-Tonner (#10) are both still on the property as are the remains of 35-tonner #8.

I understand that former STRT #6 is on display on the Edaville RR.

None of the five (#1 through #5) STRT steamers survive, nor does railbus #7.

Too bad it shut down- it was such a sweet little railroad. :( But why did they close? What will happen to the equipment? Is there anything we can do to help?
