Is HEP 3ph 480 VAC ?

Is HEP additive in a sense ? If you MU two locos can you double the HEP capacity by plugging both loco's HEP into one another ?

Is the NJ Transit and Amtrak HEP systems same and compatible ?

On electro locos is HEP section of the juice rectified and converted from the raw line voltage ?

yes HEP is 3 Phase 480 volt 60

no only one locomotive provides HEP, only Loco that had synchro gear was P30Ch but nobody realy used it.

the HEP system is via national code the 4 receptacles on each end of car are all connected same to a junction box under car were all power meets. they all have 3 pins for protection circuits and 3 big pins for power transfer.

On Older electric locomotives the HEP is generated by a Motor Alternator fed of main transformer.
on Newer locomotives the Transformer power is rectified for DC link from were the HEP and Traction inverters are fed.
