Can anyone help me with a bit of the history of the massive girder railroad bridge that sits downstream of the Cohoes Falls near Route 32 (Saratoga Avenue)?

When was it built? For which line? Has it formally been abandoned? Any interesting history?

Thanks.

That bridge is Canadian Pacific Number CO-9.28 carrying the single main track of the Colonie Main over the Mohawk River. In incorporates eight spans, both deck girder and deck truss, and has a total length of 961 feet. The bridge that is in service was built in 1927.

The parallel bridge carried the other main track, which has been removed from the bridge. It is older, but I don't have the construction date for easy reference.

Thanks for your information. Can you point me toward your original source for this information?

And, you seem to indicate that the bridge is still in use. Who is using the track?

I'd appreciate any further information you have.
