If u expect RR lines to be built or rebuilt in a linear fashion, then I guess you;d think its strange. No reason to do it linearly, tho. Construction done as money, materials, crews, and coordination with local authorities is available.

Caught this picking up the empties by the T Thomas Fortune House in Red Bank this afternoon. Crossing gates were inoperative and the crossing was flagged.

IIRC NJT used to always require Conrail to run two in case of failure on the Coast Line. This was especially true when there were repairs going on to one track or the other. One bad Conrail loco could stop a lot of commuters.

Now they just require paperwork and working PTC. But in reality there never was any requirement for two engines. No BO or SI requiring such.

And towards the end they were bringing two engines for 12 plus cars usually, and they still do now.

Has anyone seen RB-1 yet?

Checked out the line. No progress besides marking the roads for crossing work and the signs CharlieL mentioned.

Will get pictures again when we see more progress.
