Colonel, it would appear that Uncle Pete wants out of the Heritage train business.

Oh well, Warren and Chessie were "never in"; will Topper be far behind?

It doesn't sound like that at all. Union Pacific is retaining 844 and 4014, and will continue to operate both.

It sounds more like they're clearing out surplus equipment stored at Cheyenne. The E9B unit has been there since 1995, and I'm not sure if the coaches being donated are part of the active fleet or surplus that's been stored. I don't believe the SP and WP business cars haven't moved or been renovated into the current business trains.

What happens to the steam program when 4014 has to be returned to the owing society? How long was the lease agreement?

Union Pacific reached an agreement in July with the Southern California Chapter - Railway & Locomotive Historical Society to transfer ownership of one of the world's largest steam locomotives back to Union Pacific.

That helps answer several questions about 3985 as well.

I hope that when the 3985 is restored to operation, they can arrange a double-header with the 4014!

Which tender will 3985 get when it moves? It's original tender or the one 4014 brought from California?
