1701 was started up today! Whee!

Visited the 1701 today and she has vacated the nest and moved up to the switch by the Framingham Secondary. Guessing she is having the nest area trimmed and repaired. There are a couple of bundles of ties and stacks of rail staged across from the switch. I also noticed that they only cleared the unloading area by Island Road, no further West.

Is it possible that 1701 is just waiting for a CSX move to ferry her to Dartmouth?

...mebbe even ferry move to Worcester for BSRR?

The 1701 was moved in order to continue with brush cutting.

I wonder what is driving the continued investment in maintaining the physical plant. Is there any hope of Tresca returning as a customer? Any other prospective customers?

Oh, on a related note:
On 20 August 2021 In an article entitled "Dragon Products to stop Rockland rail terminal shipments", an unnamed author of the CemNet.com staff wrote:
Dragon Products to stop Rockland rail terminal shipments
20 August 2021

From next year, USA-based Dragon Products plans to stop shipping cement along the Rockland South End rail line in favour of selling cement from the plant in trucks and shipping cement by rail directly to its customers.

The cement plant currently sends rail cars about five miles on the line from the Thomaston plant to its dock on Rockland’s South End waterfront in Maine, where a barge is then filled and product is shipped to the Boston market.

10/2:

No further brush trimming since last week. With the move of the 1701, thought the line would have been cleared by now

Stopped by Sunday to check the progress....

The brush cutter hasn't moved ..... nothing happening.

Thought there were plenty of SEAL's in Bas-ten Ha-bah.

Hmmm. Hey, #1061 sat in the woods in Newton near the old junction with the Highland Branch until finally being scrapped in 2007. I know 1701 sat idle back around 2010-2013 and got vandalized.. This is starting to look like history repeating itself..

Visited the 1710 today. She is back in her nest by the treatment center. The track has not been cleared and the excavator is gone. Noticed a few markers by Island Road have been added. I believe these are noting the end of the unloading area. Guess we'll see what happens come Spring Time.

Of note, the rail and ties are being removed from Ice House Road to the Dover line in Medfield. Must be a rail trail going in.

Stopped by to visit the 1701 today.

No Changes to the line. Looks like it will be Spring of 22 before any action begins.
