At the intersection of Washington Avenue in Garden City and the Garden Mitchel Secondary on the SE corner is a small concrete pad and a 6" concrete square ~12 high post with two holes that parallel the line. Do you have any idea what that was/is?

Washington Street Station. Opened in 1923 with low platforms in service for LIRR's shuttle service with battery cars. Next station after Garden City. (From Wikipedia.)

LIRR had some of the earliest battery cars around, here's the obligatory Arrt's link: http://arrts-arrchives.com/battery.html Believe he had another page also on the battery car that ran back and forth Garden City to the air force base. There were numerous stops for both factories and military that came and went on that branch, but I agree with Pennsyfan as to the abandoned pax stop.

Are the two holes about 4' apart vertically?
