Today’s Rail Passengers hotline reports a single-level Southwest Chief year run, perhaps in anticipation in re-equipping the train with new single-level cars. But I guess the coaches would be Amfleets?

There were sighting this week of 2 LD chargers doing a test run as an advance section of # 3,reports of the chargers slipped on the
grade at Raton.
That test consist was hustled thru ABQ ans sent west to LAUS
A single level Chief?,forget it,passenger load would create a longer single level consist needing double stops at most stations.
The Sunset is a better choice to use a single level consist! :wink:

Putting the new sleepers, with their different Roomettes, on a separate train, will lessen the confusion with the older cars, and postpone the evil time when the old ones have to be reconfigured to match the new ones. Some of the Superliners released could go on a Chicago - Washington Cardinal.

One of the remaining Rohr Turbo trains is at the Amtrak MoW base at Cedar Hill yard. It is on track 17(?) at the north end of the base and is easily visible from outside the gate. Don't know why it is here but there is also an FL-9 in New Haven livery there but in the middle of the yard. JW

#4(31) out of LAUS will(should) have Amtk 202,IDTX 4617,IDTX 4618 and Amtk 69004(View II bag/dorm) on the head end.
The 2 Amtrak-Midwest Chargers are the test subjects on the mountain grades on the SW Chief route,the Bag/Dorm the home of
a bunch of Amtrak M of E,Siemens and Cummings(Prime Mover) techs doing live testing on the Chargers en route.

Caught Train #284 in Philipse Manor and Train #97 in North Elizabeth, NJ. It was nice seeing that car back on the rails.

PV on trains 42 and 43 Pennsylvanian are coupled to the motor between Philadelphia and New York. With the engine change and direction reversal at Philadelphia, they are on the rear between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
There is no rule about not putting PV on the rear.

Any info on P-42 #50?

Observed it today DIT in consist of an EB BNSF "little bit of everything" freight.

It has lettering on its side "Heartland Flyer - The Train to the Big Game".

It was mostly likely set off somewhere due to mechanical issues and BNSF is just bringing it back to an Amtrak facility.
