I noticed them on Track 6 last week, I was wondering why they were there.

Several, perhaps 6, were in a westbound CSX freight train passing through Laurel, Maryland at almost 4:00 this afternoon.

Having seen these cars being built at Red Lion and testing on the ex-Reading, glad to see that they are still even around.

Is the SPV at DRM the remains of ConnDOT 50,aka Lizzie?
  by DutchRailnut

no, SPV #50 was scrapped after lingering in Cedar hill for years, the car got wrecked on Danbury when it hit a 5 foot boulder between Branchville and Georgetown.

Former Metro-North SPV car 293 is at the Connecticut Eastern Railroad Museum, Willimantic, CT. It is in roughly as-built configuration, likely the last one in that condition.

The consist of the 2019 Autumn Colors Express (successor
to the defunct New River Trains) between Huntington and Hinton WV on October 25-26-27 (2019) is planned to include 6 of these former SPV-2000 coaches. This is contingent on the cars passing their Amtrak private car inspections in time for the three Amtrak special trains. These cars are the cheapest seats in the excursion, as most of the other cars are higher end private varnish including multiple dome cars.

The first of the three 2019 ACE excursions departed Huntington WV this morning, and none of the former SPV-2000 coaches were in the train’s consist. The excursion operators leased two Amtrak Horizon cars to take the place of the six Constitution Liners planned for the trips.

I’ve heard (secondhand) that none of those cars, owned by Foxville and Northern Railway in North Carolina, attained the necessary Amtrak certification as private cars.

Six former Constitution Liners, now with a fresh COTS and Amtrak private car inspections, are parked on one of the house tracks at Amtrak’s Savannah station.

They are planned to move:
SAV to WAS, Amtrak train 90(15)
WAS to CHI, Amtrak train 29(16)

They are scheduled for use in some Polar Express special trains in Chicago-land.

Bumping thread: Railexco purchased 7 SPVs this year and will retain and rehab 2 cars. Here's a photo of a recently released SPV being used on the 2023 TRRA Polar Express Train Ride at St Louis.
