Here's a photo of the first M-8 train to operate on its own power east of New Haven. It ran the night of Feb. 28, 2017 from New Haven to New London, shown here passing Guilford station.
Expect service between New Haven and Old Saybrook to begin before the end of this year.

Care to enlighten me how you came up with that conclusion?

No.

Can the unpowered M-8 S trailer cars run on Amtrak's 25kv wire? and is there a limit of how many M-8 S trailers in a consist?
  by DutchRailnut

yes and only one S car in consist , computer will not allow train makeup with more than one.

Why would you want to operate a train with more than one S-car in a consist???

You could makeup an 8 car set with 2 S trailers and 3 married pair M8's.
With that 1 S trailer allowed at best is a 5 car set, with 2 pairs of M-8's

What's the status of M8s running on SLE? This article claims that work on Clinton's second platform is to begin this spring, but who knows when that will get finished...2020...2021? I think we've all seen this article, which states:
The state will also focus on repairing out-of-service rail cars, Andreski added. Six locomotives have been sent to Illinois for repair, and 12 more will be sent to Indiana for a complete overhaul. Andreski said this will add 10 more years of life to the aging cars — a more cost-effective solution than buying new cars.
Is this just poorly written or is CTDOT really sending out rail cars to be overhauled? Why do that when M8s are coming down the pipe?

Anyone know if Amtrak has made any progress on the catenary work, or are they still digging their heels in?

only one S car can be used in any size train, or computer system rejects train makeup.

Sounds like a rehashing of the let's rebuild the P40s after the Geeps come back with some piss poor framing by the media.

Just sounds like a poorly worded choice for the 12 P40’s going to Beech Grove for rebuild, see this thread.

there is rumblings going on about M-8's not going to be used on SLE after all.....

Because of the PTC gear screw-up??
  by DutchRailnut

nope just about everything including the Amtrak refusal to certify M-8 on Amtrak territory .

I have been hearing a lot about the M8s not being used on SLE too. Even though the electrification is in place, it seems that more of the needs for the M8s are along the New Haven Line and for the future "East Bronx" service. I would love to see them operate east of New Haven, but at the same time, not many people, outside of rush hour, ride Shore Line East.
