2011 hasn't been out in Hyannis yard..
Is it beoung used on North Pole runs ???

Not only were they New Haven when new, but they operated on the Cape, hauling the summer-only GCT-Hyannis/Woods Hole trains. It's actually pretty cool to see them in the Hyannis yard like that. Here's the ad for the Summer 1960 service: http://www.nhrhta.org/htdocs/images1018.htm

Ironically now more than ever it would be great if the "New Haven" could again return to connect with the ferries at least Via Falmouth. Just over 6 miles of real estate exist between current operations and what could be a huge step toward turning the parking lot known as Route 28 back into a usable road again. Former Governor Mike Dukakis knew this, but, unfortunately those that followed stuck to their 20th century mindset instead of progressing forward by placing a taxpayer money pit in place of the railroad.

Thank you Mr. Turkington along with all of your ilk for going out of your way to ensure that traffic congestion is a permanent problem for anyone trying to travel in that direction on the Cape.

Was walking on the bike path by the Yarmouth, MA SEMASS transfer station rail line and noticed a plow in need of restoration on the siding. Does anyone know anything about this ? Is it Mass Coastal's ?

Stopped by the Power Plant in Sandwich, MA on the Cape Cod Canal and noticed the RR siding into the facility was being reconstructed for continued use as a new natural gas turbine power plant is under construction in addition to the two older power plants on site that were constructed in the 1960 's

From what I read the new plant will fire up only at times of peak demand. The siding is needed for ammonia delivery (I don't know about others uses). It's interesting because I think the last delivery came from BOREMCO in Fall River so it could be a 100% MC move.

The plows belong to the MBTA last I knew. Two purchases that never really panned out and
brought down here several years ago. Not sure where the other one is.

The new power plant is a peak demand quick start natural gas turbine while the older units on site require considerable time to get online, which may see more use when Pilgrim nuclear shuts down. The ammonia car on site was moved closer to the siding switch so reconstruction work could be done.

The marking on the side of the plow by the open door was MBA 2742R if that is any help.

MBA was an improper reporting mark used by the MBTA for a short period. Their
northside MW caboose still carries it I believe.

Just an FYI, T commuter rail reporting mark is MBTX (despite some engines showing
XMBT inside the cabs). Mass DOT has MDTX reporting marks.

Thanks for the info. Why the MBTA would park it all the way at the end of the line in Yarmouth who knows ? In the past the MBTA has stored passenger cars out on the siding next to the UCRTS on Otis, which is certainly closer to access.

Out of curiosity. What is the vintage of the plow? Could it be near 100 years old?

The 2742 is ex-CN 55395 and built in 1935 by NRC

The 2744 is ex-CN 55385 and built in 1930 by ECC

MassDOT and the Town Of Bourne have closed the private Briarwood bridge in Monument Beach, MA ( not in Pocasset as article says ) over the Falmouth Secondary line after inspections concluded it is structurally deficient. After legal private ownership is established will see who is responsible for repair / replacement of the bridge or changing to a at grade RR crossing which in the long run would be the best scenario as it would eliminate any future issue's.

Mass Coastal trash train in route to or from Yarmouth transfer station was hit by a car at around 4 PM yesterday on West Yarmouth road near the intersection of Elisha's Pond road which has crossbuck warning signs only. Probably paying attention to a phone instead of driving as the trash train is slow moving target, pretty hard not to miss that approaching ! Found video below that was posted about the incident
