ATW

Does anyone know or can tell me where boxcar ATW originated? I'm curious to find out. It is parked at the loading dock behind Georgia Pacific in Huntsville AL.

The reporting marks (initials on side of car) ATW stand for the Atlantic and Western, a short line in North Carolina.

That should have said ATW 1606. Thank you. I have seen ATW boxcars all the way up in northern Maine.

The Atlantic and Western is a Genesee and Wyoming property. I suspect the use of the ATW reporting mark is a way for the corporation to make money by renting cars in per diem service ... and they will never, ever, see the home rails.
