Rumor has it that the Hickory Creek will be back on the back of train #287 on Sunday the 26th. What a great photo opportunity, especially along the Hudson! Can anyone confirm?

Hickory Creek and Sandy Creek are the two Century 5br Obs Lounge cars built to Pullman-Standard Plan 4126 Lot 6790; placed in service during Sep 1948 (source: Wayner).

I was privileged to have ridden these cars on several circa '60's occasions. They were withdrawn from NYC service on Dec 12, 1967.

One car was acquired by Ringling Brothers and the other by American Orient Express; what I DON'T know is "which is which"

Anyone?

The Hickory Creek was still at its storage site in Hunterdon County, NJ this morning. It looks like the work may have been completed so I suppose the 26th is a possibility if the logistics are already in place.

Hickory Creek was indeed the car that ran away to the circus. URHS acquired the car and sponsored its complete restoration. Well, almost complete. The misguided folks at URHS saw that the car was lettered PULLMAN and not NEW YORK CENTRAL, as it spent the majority of its career.

Regardless, I haven't heard anything about this car moving since it was unveiled in Hoboken a few years back. It would be great to see it roll up the Hudson once more!

I guess I will see for myself on Saturday afternoon June 25th, as I will be at Sunnyside Yard at that time, preparing for our departure on Sunday morning's Cardinal ... J PINCKNEY HENDERSON, MOUNT VERNON and KITCHI GAMMI CLUB will be operating from NYP to CHI on the rear of Amtrak # 51 of June 26th ... on their way to the NRHS convention at PDX.

NYC "SANDY CREEK" = AOE "NEW YORK"

NYC "HICKORY CREEK" = URHS OF NJ "HICKORY CREEK" (restored to NYC)

Hickory Creek was one of the stars of the 2002 Hoboken Festival.

Jack - look for me to be photographing 51 as it goes through Trenton Station (if Bober's goons don't accost me for photographing Amtrak from NJT property) or from South Street bridge as it leaves 30th Street.

It appears likely you will see Hickory Creek on the NYC on the 26th. See the following news item:

Looks like an unusual and excellent photo op

As of yesterday (Thursday, June 23rd at 7 p.m.) it was still at Lebanon, NJ. It was off the jacks and resting on its refurbished trucks.

Here is URL link to a photo of the Hickory Creek at Lebanon, NJ taken by my passenger about 2 weeks ago:

Heard it will be there today and as luck would have it they just called me for the job. Now what did my wife do with the camera...

Well??? Did it happen and if so did anyone out there capture it on film?
(If it did operate then it ran about 130 feet from me. However, unfortunately the 130 feet is straight down, i.e., the line operates approximately underneath our west side Manhattan building*** --- not exactly practical for photos!)

It happened and I believe there are pictures on trainorders.com - Amtrak Section. You may still be able to see thumbnails if not a member over there. Otherwise, just wait, I am sure someone will post here.

Yes indeed, the Hickory Creek was on #287 on Sunday.

The car looks BEAUTIFUL, right down to the neon blue tail sign!

Unfortunitely, when I saw it at Buffalo-Depew, #287 was running ~2 1/2 hours late, after a long HOT run on heat restricted CSX, but the car's occupants didn't seem to be minding it at all.

I'll try to post some pictures later...

It is returning to New York on Wednesday, June 29. I would assume it will run on #286.

I would agree if it returning on Wednesday then #286 is probably a good guess.

BUT WOULD EVERYBODY OUT THERE PLEASE KEEP US ADVISED ON THIS MATTER!!!

I nailed the Hickory Creek rolling past Bannerman's Island just near Breakneck Ridge on Sunday... looked GREAT and can't wait for the return trip! Anyone confirm it's return on #286?
