The Windham County ,Vermont, Historical Society recently purchased the West River Railroad station in Newfane, Vermont and are restoring it for use as a museum. Known as "36 Miles of Trouble" the railroad went out of business in 1936. There is now a "Go Fund Me" site to help with funding the restoration project: https://www.gofundme.com/jpmchh5z" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Please help in any way you can.

Does anyone know of a gofundme page being created to help with any other kind of railroad restoration project? This site https://www.gofundme.com/jpmchh5z" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; has been successful and we hope will encourage others to try using gofundme for their own projects.

The gofundme page is getting a few "anonymous" contributions and we don't know where they are coming from. We know some railroad enthusiasts have become aware of the site and are emailing it to others. If it's anyone here at railroads.net, thank you very much. We really appreciate your help. :-D

Well, the gofundme campaign was a huge success. Final amount was $25,801! Thank you to anyone here who helped in any way. We know the word spread all over the country and much of it was due to the help of railroad historical societies and railroad enthusiasts groups and websites like this one. I hope some of you will give this fund raising method a try. It beats the heck outta bake sales! :-D

Turns out we can keep the gofundme site open until donations stop trickling in although it was originally only going to be open for the month of Feb.. The advice gofundme gives is to keep it open until there's no action for a couple weeks. Donations are now at $26,150 ! Thank you to railroad.net railroad forums for helping get the word out about this restoration project. Here's the Historical Society website. They're working hard on the restoration. They're trying to figure out the original color of the station so they can match it. Not real easy with only black and white photos. http://www.historicalsocietyofwindhamcounty.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
