I was northbound on Rte 15 today and noticed that the long OOS line between White Deer and Allenwood is being rebuilt. Looks like a couple of new bridges, reconstructed ROW, and relocated ROW in a couple of places to accommodate wider curves. My first thought was a sand transloading facility in Allenwood, but then I remembered something here a couple of years ago about a Target distribution facility planned for just north of Allenwood. Can someone bring me up to date on what's going on in Allenwood? Thanks.

Always good to see a RR line coming back from the dead. From the other thread it sounds like the ex-NYC Beech Creek segment is not going to come back after all. For WHite Deer-Allenwood, good memory! Here are links to 2 old threads

The second link mentions the possibility of a food processing plant in addition to Target, and has a link to some news release (from about a year ago). I don't have any other info.

Thanks, JS. It's good to know that at least some of my memory is still working.

From what I could see the rebuild is coming south from Allenwood. And I'm thinking that the project only got underway relatively recently as there was no indication of activity when I passed by there last November. As to purpose, I could see no large construction just north of Allenwood but I will look again when I'm by there again in a couple of days. It does appear that there is a multiple track ROW being built just south of Allenwood, thus my thought that it might be a sand transload facility.

I'm assuming that whatever customer or business is driving the rebuild will be handled by NS off the Buffalo line.

Uh-Oh. Could be a "train to nowhere." http://dailyitem.com/0100_news/x1052787 ... n-derailed
The Target store chain had planned to locate a major distribution center in the park, but has postponed work on that project for years...
And another "Uh-Oh"
... because there has been virtually no recent activity at the park, it’s feared taxpayers may get the bill
Must be frustrating for a lot of people who worked hard on this, and then the rug is pulled out. It also says the rail work is still going on but slowed down for higher priority projects elsewhere. JS

Passed the area southbound today. As far as I could tell, the rebuilt line extends up to somewhere in the vicinity behind Clyde Peeling's. Interestingly enough, it did not look like there were any switches installed yet. Given that there is no commercial construction underway in that area, I guess that makes sense. There are several prominently large signs advertising the property for sale and the existence of rail service. That's been the situation for some time. That's one reason why I was surprised to see the rail line being rebuilt. The line to nowhere seems an appropriate moniker at this moment. Wonder if the rebuild was funded with federal stimulus money?

Except for one bridge, line looks almost complete to White Deer. Nobody working on the bridge but a crew was laying track close to White Deer.

I visited Allenwood in April. The industrial park has not been built yet.
