WORCESTER, Mass. – Providence & Worcester Railroad has purchased its first six-motor locomotives, a pair of EMD SD70M-2s. The units previously operated as Florida East Coast Nos. 100 and 102. Although the 500-mile northeastern regional periodically uses leased CEFX SD40-s and GATX SD60s, the nine-year old SD70M-2s will be the first six-axle units on the roster, which now is dominated by GE B39-8s and B40-8s.

According to a post on GuilfordRailSightings, CEFX 1017 — a GE AC4400 — is also destined for P&W.

the C44 is there just for storage

It's now being reported (via Kevin Burkholder and GuilfordRailSightings) that the 1017 will not be going to Worcester after all. It, and the other two AC4400s, will be going to the Indiana Rail Road instead.

The SD70M-2s are reportedly at Selkirk as of noon today, according to a post by Mr. Gary Young on GuilfordRailSightings.

Just saw P&W 2009 and a wide cab loco with PW painted on the side come through Holden. Looked like it was a 6 axle. Was it one of there new SD70s? I think it was ex BNSF.

If it was in BNSF paint, it was #582 which is a 4-axle GE Dash 8-40BW.

I heard that one of the SD70M-2s will be making its debut in fresh P&W paint very soon. Can't wait to see it!

The 4301 is almost painted up...There has been photos on one of the Facebook
pages for the past three weeks of the progress. Should be in Worcester for the
Railroad Expo show this coming week?

OT, but Brand X regular and high-end gons and MT centerbeams like seen in this NRWO were in pre-dawn 03-23 Gardner yard. Dunno if these types of cars are NRWO frequent fliers or if dwell time in Worcester is remarkably less than in Deerfield or Rigby.
