West side of Newark Branch

5613, 5614 & 5610 showed up around 2am with a big cut of spine cars !!

I forgot about Seton Leather on Oraton St between Grafton Ave & Verona Ave. They were a big customer on the Newark Branch with a siding that went directly into their tannery.

5613, 5614 & 5610 sow up around 11:15 last night at Bloomfield Ave. with a big cut of spine cars !!!! One interesting thing the last couple of times they have been shoving the cars down the branch threw all those crossing !! Can they shove like that on the NJT???? There are no places to runaround or swtch till they get to Nutley!!

On NJT, they have 2 engines up front and one on the rear. When they get to the Newark Industrial, they take off the lead two, shove everything onto the Branch, then tack on the other 2 engines on the rear for the shove

I just wonder why they would start to do it that way now that is a pretty long way at leasted 6 crossing for the conductor to stand on those cars being shoved !!!! ( not great cars to hang on to) that don't seem to SAFE ??? They were pulling them down before & just shoving them threw Kingsland Ave to the run around in Nutley !! & switching the power down there!!

how many container cars are in the cut [6 wheels per car]?

at-least 10 maybe 12 cars sometimes more !!

5613 & 5614 ran last night around 1 am at kingsland ave , 4 covered hoppers & spine cars !!!

What exactly are they hauling of there? Some kind of contaminated dirt? Back in the day was someone dumping something out the back door, associated with a factory?

if your on route 3 by the building, it is amazing how many of those dirty dirt semi-trailers are on the property. Its just covered for as far as the eye can see.

They are loaded with contaminated dirt each container weighing 25 ton 6 to a car !!!! They were in business for like 80yrs, they had there garbage facility & power plant , they made alot vitamins & drugs there !!! In the late 70's to mid 80's conrail brought in a lot of tank cars!!!!

Conrail served Roche up until the early to mid 90's, as far as I remember.

5613 & 5614 ran last night around 1am , 5 covered hoppers & spine cars !!! Roche change in the early 90's from production to research & cut off the siding then !!!

Day time run 5613 & 5616 passed Kingsland ave. a 2:30 wth 5616 shoving loaded cars & 5613 trailing the empty ones! Switching down in Nutley & heading back !!
