Freightguy is correct. It is more economical to buy the car and scrap it than for LIRR to use a crane to re-rail it, and then make repairs to the car to make it good as new.

The fact that overhead power wires are also in the mix above the car also made the crane move impractical.

Yes they got the gp10 and I believe it is still there

Ah yes the GP10 2.0, I think one came also in the beginning of NYA in 1997. The second GP10 went to Gershow around 2003/04 after the axles locked up on it during a Prima stone train run. It was their bumping block for years until they finally cut it up or sold the trucks. We didn't think it was possible to get "new" power from the 1950's to supplement the 1970's power acquired originally from the LIRR, but leave it to the New York and Atlantic.
