Apparently Metro is considering closing down the Medical Center station and cutting the Red line in half as part of a project that, over the course of a period of time, would seek to resolve the constant infiltration of water into the tunnel there. According to the article, the geology in this section of the tunnel causes a "lot of pressure in the tunnels", which I assume means water is pushed into the tunnels.
