With out any research, could that Church be the First Baptist on the corner of Comm and Clarendon?
  by joshg1

That is definitely Copley. The cameraman is in front of the BPL facing compass north. The pointy gothic building under the trolley pole is Chauncy Hall school, pulled down and replaced in 1908. The church was the Second Church, demolished 1914. Parkinson the photographer is advertised above the corner buildings. He was at 423 Boylston (up past Berkeley) in 1904 and 5.

Thanks, Teamdriver, nice picks! Some serious memories there for me!

Awesome! Thanks.
By my reckoning that 3001 in Copley is the one and only in Boston St. Louis PCC.

That may well be the only photo of a PCC in Copley Square instead of under it - the Huntington Ave Subway opened the same year the first full order of PCCs started arriving in Boston.

That June 1938 fantrip took 3001 many places where no other PCC would ever go.
Here it is in Chelsea. The trip also covered the Allston-Dudley line, went to Dorchester,
Somerville and the inner Fellsway. Pretty good for probably a buck or two.

Fan trip or publicity trip? It's good publicity to bring the new and improved equipment to the public, even if they knew the new and improved would never run in those areas.

wow Chelsea? I never knew that.

Does that mean she pass through East Boston too?
  by Leo Sullivan

Yes it did, here's a picture on the Maverick surface loop which went the other way then.
and another on the single track Lexington St. Line.
3001 must have got there through the
non revenue track via Everett Sq.
I've seen a map, very impressive for one day.

..From the Queen Mary to the Semi-Convertible, we have an interesting photo which I think was taken from the steps of the police station, Division 15 at City Square, Charlestown. Horse drawn wagons, notice the El man picking the point on the switch with his iron, I thought that the girls attire could almost be latter day ! 1899 ! Great shot !

I'm posting links to full size versions b/c the server can't determine the dimensions of my reduced images (yet I can).

I didn't realize I had this image of a West End US Mail car in Copley Sq. From Rand McNally's 1897 edition of Handy Guide to Boston & Environs…
