1. When was the station last used for pax service?
2. Was the huge tower and offices above the station all RR related or was it rented by the RRs to the public?
3. When did the track canopies get demolished from behind the station and turned into a parking lot?
4. In the laster years (70s) was the old station tracks under the canopies used or did the few remaining trains use the still-exising light rail tracks directly under the buildings?
5. Does any RR still own the staion or was it sold?
Was surprised to see the amount of abandoned and left-to-rot RR infrastruction around the station and Cleveland in general. Lots of tracks that just pop up and go no where.
Amtrak did not use Cleveland Union Terminal. The Lake Shore Limited was not scheduled on Amtrak Day 1 (May 1'71) and for some time thereafter; when the LSL was establishd it was routed via the Lakefront. The E-L Cleveland-Youngstown train was probably the last. If you don't get answers here, maybe someone on the E-L segment of Fallen Flags knows.
1. The E-L commuter was the last service to utilize CUT. Not sure of the exact date.
2.The railroad had no affiliation with the ownership of the office tower. The NKP HQ was in the Tower as was the C&O executive office. Many other railroads had local offices in the Tower. NYC Cleveland Division / Lake Division offices were in the station structure, and Western District / Lake Region offices were at the LS&MS Bldg. at W. 3rd St & St. Clair Ave.
3. The area behind the station platforms was the coach yard and supporting buildings. Parking lot went in in the 1980's.
4. There was no commingled use of the RTA trackage by trains account clearances and FRA rules.
5. The Station property was sold to Forest City as part of the Tower City complex.

The Cleveland - Youngstown passenger service actually out lasted the Erie-Lackawanna by several months . The last train railroad train to use Union Station was No 28 on January 14, 1977 and it was run by Conrail. The consist was three coaches headed up by E-8 4014. Although the E-8 was still in Erie-Lackawanna colors the E-L diamond on the front was replaced by another diamond with a "CR" in it.
