Here's a weird one... caught it at the bottom of the second page. Looks like a Downeaster... with a second loco in the middle?

There's currently a CSX move on the page. Is it leased power for Pan Am or does CSX venture that far north every so often?

Gotta be leased. They run to Everett Terminal via Grand Junction and Eastern Route once a day and interchange with Pan Am at Ayer via the Worcester Branch, but those are the only trackage rights they have that even touch the northside.

The Downeaster keeps a spare locomotive and cars in Portland. The power and extra cars get swapped out every couple of weeks and brought back to Boston, usually on the tail of Thursday or Friday's 686 inbound.

Pan Am train SEPO often uses CSX power to Portland, returning as POSE or NMSE. These trains leave CSX at Worcester and move through Ayer and then east on Pan Am into Maine. The CSX power is not leased but borrowed.

Yes that's a PAR loco pulling a FRA inspection car. Not related to the MBTA...
