heads up...the yellow bird engine is at North Street yard this evening (8 PM), with 13, yes, 13 cars. No crew around, so not sure if they are coming or going. The consist is pretty interesting...several hoppers for Peabody, tank car, about 7 gons along for the ride and a couple hoppers that look like bulk order cars, not the usual cars for Peabody. A pretty good sized train. The light was fading so I could not get a good photo.

Here are 2 pics I took earlier:

I too was curious about those last 3 hoppers as they seem to be pneumatic discharge type hoppers. The last time they brought this many cars to North St, there were 2 of those hoppers in the consist: http://photos.nerail.org/s/?p=200338 Didnt know they could ship crushed animal bones in those types of cars.

3003 was back at North Street last evening (thursday) with another good size lineup, including the gons. Not there Friday AM, so must have re-crewed and headed out overnight. One of these days I would like to catch it in good light!

Since this is a late train, yet to work Rousselot, it will probably can and
leave later on in the morning. Andy

I caught LA-1 crossing Third Ave. in Somerville with 4 "bones" at noontime today. They arrived at North St. Salem a little before 1300hrs, ran around their train and headed for Rousselot.

Leaving North St.: http://photos.nerail.org/s/?p=201995

Crossing Grove St.: http://photos.nerail.org/s/?p=201994

Crossing Peabody Sq.: http://photos.nerail.org/s/?p=201993 AND http://photos.nerail.org/s/?p=201992

Looking back at the posts, this is the second straight month that GMTX #3003 has been the power for LA-1. Is it almost time for a new coat of paint for this locomotive?

"A nearby construction crew was surprised when the LA-1 crew crossed Grove St. with 4 loads for Rousselot. If you look at the shape the branch is in, an unsuspecting person would wonder the same thing."

Hehe! :)

I always wonder what people think when they're caught waiting for this in Peabody Sq!

Especially if you come from the the Peabody Mall, you got a green traffic light right into the train. It happened
to me twice. Surprise!!!!! Andy

A lot of people tend to freak. Especially the ones in their cars on the tracks. Out of the blue you hear a train horn and look over and see a locomotive coming at you, even if its at walking speed. Others tend to give you the "WTF" look when you step out in front of them with a flag telling them to stop, then the locomotive emerges from beside the building.

It's a shame that people have gotten so oblivious to this - at one time, nearly every town had a branch where this would happen....
