Difficult and/or more expensive. If they really want to get the south of NYC, they could either send them via CHI or pay CP, NS or CSX to haul them to the NEC at PHI or WAS.

Or simply deliver them via Boston and tack them on to the end of one of several trains, including 66.

I guess it really is a question of time versus dollars. Quickest way or cheapest way? Quickest would probably be Class 1 via Scranton to NEC.
Question to all: How / where does Amtrak take currently take delivery from CAF?

at the CAf factory in Elmira, then deadheaded with Amtrak power to Rensselaer.
If Conductors are in charge, why are they promoted to be Engineer???

A bit more descriptive; ERIE-B'ham-D&H. All NS nowadays.

Such a waste if they are not used.

Here is the Frailey blog with the "11 brand new.." comment.. I think the TRAINS blogs are open content:

The main content of the blog is most interesting, while off topic here, the thought appears to be what I'm sure "a few" incoming Amtrak CEO's have held: "what the * did I get myself into"?

I really like to know were frailey gets his numbers , as they just do not add up.

And Mr NG the question was where, not how and what routing was.

Following Mr East Point's statement about problems with delivery during the Harlem River bridge re-constoruction, You and Mr Norman have provided the answers to questions I had in my mind concerning this.
So the new cars go Elmira - Albany - New York - Hialeah. Do to bridge work, they will have to go via Chicago or Boston. So I propose instead for Amtrak to route them through Scranton to Washington. Yes the trackage fees to NS and fuel will be more, but yard work at Albany and Boston would be saved. At WAS they could be tacked on to a Silver during the engine change. Hialeah would probably get the cars 2 days earlier and overall cost of the move would be about the same.

I am pretty confident, that Amtrak pays someone to make those decisions, and not wait for us to come up with a solution.

pretty sure Amtrak is not going to give access to Dinner to freight crews (no traps or doors) and any freight routing would subject the car to vandalism.

Couldn't they do a middle of the night route Spuyten-MO-New Rochelle-Sunnyside? I understand a run-around would be needed at NRO, but with back-back Amtrak P42s that shouldn't be difficult, right?

I'm genuinely curious why folks think that such moves will be so problematic.

Honestly, Amtrak can do this all themselves. Either straight through to Boston and then down the NEC or if they want the extra move, at the end of a train to GCT and then up and over to Sunnyside (I find this unlikely).

But involve freight lines, moving them to Chicago first, etc.

And speed is NOT of the essence here. Doing it cheaply is. Amtrak has lived years w/o the upcoming diners and sleepers, another day or two to route them through Boston, or even NYC is not going to make or break things.

It seems like some folks are trying to solve a problem that doesn't really exist. Or, quite possibly I'm just being quite obtuse.

With the way logistics works with amtrak etc, the cars will just end up getting handed off to sunnyside in whatever way they plan to deal with sending backshops and 150 day cars to sunnyside to go to miami for that work to be done. Since all of the LDSL cars are commissioned in Miami, they will have to get down there one way or another. A DH move to SSYD via NRO would be logical.

This morning Amtrak picked up 68020 Providence, 68021 Raleigh, and 68022 Richmond from CAF in Elmira.
